Best Minimalist Beauty Brands 2023
Hello lovelies! We are back with another highly requested article to welcome the year 2023. With this sustainable and natural trend going on in the beauty industry, minimalist beauty has been very popular in the recent years. Here are some of my favourite brands to purchase from if you are in for a vanity makeover or even to refresh your beauty routine!
Hair
Oribe
Oribe, pronounced as or-bay, is a brand endorsed by various supermodels and celebrities like Jennifer Lopez and Sarah Jessica Parker. Their star product has got to be the Gold Lust Repair and Restore Shampoo. Formulated with rejuvenating and healing oils and extracts, this shampoo strengthens each strand while balancing the scalp.
Sachajuan
Here is an interesting fact about the brand. The brand name is a combination of both it's founders' names, Sacha Mitic and Juan Rosenlind who are internationally renowned hairstylists. This brand is based on a minimalist approach, from design to the performance of their products. Check out their Ocean Mist which is a sea salt spray that gives limp hair sexy volume and waves.
Gisou
To everyone who knows me personally, I'm positive that you are all well aware that I simply cannot stand the sight of beautiful packaging (This is probably my greatest downfall). Gisou products just make me want to purchase the whole lot of them. Each. And. Every. One. Of. Them. However, I've tried most of their products and they simply don't work well in Malaysia due to the humidity and my overly-active sweat glands. Even so, I'm recommending them because if you are not in a hot climate, these products are a miracle for dry hair and did I mention that they smell absolutely fabulous? If you ever have a chance to purchase any product from them, I would highly recommend the Honey-Infused Hair Oil.
Skincare
Herbivore Botanicals
If you have read my previous article on the skincare products I used, you would know that I adore one particular product from Herbivore Botanicals. Awww, you remembered! It's the Blue Tansy AHA + BHA Resurfacing Clarity Mask. I want to emphasise on the fact that Herbivore Botanicals uses glass packaging, touché!
French Girl Organics
I don't know about you but there has always been a French craze in the beauty and fashion world and what better way to ride the French wave than to try out French Girl Organics' products? My favourite is definitely their lip tint. The texture is buttery yet not sticky (in a totally good way), not to mention, the price is also very affordable for an organic product!
Lixirskin
I first encountered this brand in Liberty, London. Being the sucker for minimalist packaging, I tried out two of their products - The electrogel cleanser and the Vitamin C paste. I definitely loved the Vitamin C paste but the electrogel cleanser is a hard pass for me. However in my defence, the cleanser would have probably worked better if the weather wasn't so humid and hot in Malaysia.
Body
Necessaire
Necessaire is known for their body products and if you have taken a scroll on Pinterest, you'll see their products appearing on almost every gift guide. I have tried their body wash and it is none like I have ever used before. Best part about it? The body wash comes in a fragrance-free version too!
Glossier
Does this brand even need an introduction? To all Malaysians, fret not because Zalora is now selling Glossier products! (Hip Hip Hurray!) I know they have a wide range of products from skincare to makeup but I think that their body products are awfully underrated, especially their hand cream. Comes in a Y2K-look case, the non-greasy formula has really caught my attention. Bonus: Try their fragrance, You by Glossier. I guarantee you won't regret it.
Method
Homegrown brand alert! I first came across this brand when shopping in Village Grocer. The first thought that came to my mind was, "Huh, this looks really cute." Then I took a whiff and they absolutely blew me away. The Cedar and Cypress body wash for men smells like something you would get out of Aesop.
Makeup
Westman Atelier
Sephora Malaysia please hear my prayers and bring this brand in! Founded by Gucci Westman, (Yeah, what a name right?) this minimalist brand is targeted at women (or men!) who want to keep their makeup routine simple and natural (AKA Me). However, Westman Atelier can be considered as a luxury brand due to the price points of their products. If you want a cheaper version, read ahead! My favourite product would definitely be the Squeaky Clean Lip Balm in Chou Chou. Between the Fenty Gloss Bomb and this, if you prefer a more natural look, definitely choose Westman Atelier, but if you are going all out glam to impress, it's the Fenty Beauty by a mile.
Merit Beauty
Another minimalist brand on my radar would be Merit Beauty. I'm still waiting patiently for them to expand to Asia. Merit Beauty is certified vegan and cruelty-free, which is definitely a priority for me when purchasing beauty products. If you have time, take a look at their website. I am very impressed with how they included photos of ALL the shades in ALL skin tones. Touché!
Rose Inc
I know, I know, everyone has something against celebrity beauty brands. Hear me out, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley really knew what she was doing when she created Rose Inc. Their tagline is Clean Beauty Powered by Science, so I decided to give her products a try. The minimalist packaging really is the icing on top.
Fragrance
Byredo
Please tell me you have heard of them before, because if you haven't it's time to step up your game! The whole New York practically smells like Bal D'Afrique, which is their signature scent. I prefer La Tulipe, which as rhubarb (Oh my favourite) as its top notes.
Diptyque
You know how much I love Diptyque. Their perfume is literally out of this world. If you don't know what my favourite perfume from them is, then let me enlighten you. Nothing makes me happier than smelling the scents of fresh grass and figs. Just like Aqua di Parma's Fico di Amalfi but less citrus notes, Diptyque Philosykos will always hold a special place in my heart. Reason why I'm not repurchasing it is because the fragrance only lasts 1 hour on my skin. However, the evolution of the scent is incredible. Try it out for yourself!
Le Labo
If you have passed any of their shops before, yes, it's the one that looks tattered, but smells darn delicious. You can smell the shop from a mile away. I think that Le Labo scents are all rather woody and musky in the best way possible. All scents are unisex too. If you have a boyfriend or husband, this is what he should smell like.
And there you go! Those are the products from minimalist brands that are on my list. I hope you enjoyed the read!
